What is alternative health?

Alternative health is, in other words, a branch of healing and preserving health methodologies that does not have the status of recognized medical treatments. Although increasing popularity of this way of healing started at the time of the hippis revolution, it was well known in ancient times, but during the times of industrial revolution it was practically banned by conventional medicine. Alternative health includes many (unusual for some people) practices that are connected with religious, spiritual or metaphysical techniques which are meant to preserve or - in case of illness – reconstruct the  natural balance of human or animal body that is crucial for its well being and longevity.

Philosophy of alternative health

Almost all of alternative health therapies are based on the assumption that the human body is a perfect creation of God. People who profess to this philosophy believe also that there are four main aspects of health: mental, physical, spiritual and emotional and that we are all meant to be born healthy, but because of our unbalanced lifestyles, environmental pollution or eternal events we contract diseases and illnesses. Such infections have their causes in growing distort of one of aspects of health. If this happens, the other aspects will be affected as well. This is why alternative health focuses more on finding and fixing causes of disease than effects, because when natural balance exists, body is able to regenerate even without any medication.

Why is alternative health therapies so popular?

All physicians as well as psychologists debate on popularity of alternative health. Some of them consider such practices as not only useless, but even harmful, while others think that they can be important supplement of the more conventional methods.  Still, the last words belong to patients who pay for therapy of their choice. And alternative health, although it  is not cheaper than  conventional methods, gives one, very important thing, which is not available in contemporary medicine where almost everything may be estimated – hope. There is no way to measure the power of prayers or meditations and their influence on process of recovering. This is why even individuals who think that such practices work only as placebo cannot prove their suspicions.
